Refugee Empowerment International raises funds to support projects for people displaced by violence, conflict or persecution around the world.
The majority of refugees and internally displaced people want to stay near home, their region of origin – and to return home one day – but they are forgotten as each new crisis arises. Each new crisis brings back memories of their own trauma, but people don’t want to dwell on that but to rebuild, to move forward and regain some dignity.
The projects we support target these forgotten communities enabling the beneficiaries to regain some control over their lives and give back to the community while also making valuable contributions to the local economy as they rebuild their own future.
As a small organisation we can meet with the communities, learn about their challenges, learn about their hopes and dreams and we are inspired by their resilience.
This is not about hand-outs, but a hand up.
The more we build independence, the less we need to give aid.
