Since its founding in 2008 by an Act of the Bangladesh Parliament, Asian University for Women (AUW) in Chittagong, Bangladesh, has graduated over 1200 young women from 19 countries across Asia and the Middle East to be leaders and innovative thinkers addressing their home communities’ social, political, and economic challenges.
AUW recruits talented women regardless of their ethnic, religious, or socioeconomic background, and particularly strives to create opportunities for young women from excluded populations to excel in a university education. Extensive financial assistance, funded by the generosity of donors across the world, is available to all who need it, and no student is denied the opportunity to study at AUW for reasons of financial need. The majority of students are on full scholarship and are the first in their family to enter university.
AUW fosters an ethos of service and justice that pushes students to graduate as leaders who ask pioneering questions, drive solutions in their own communities, and lead thinking on some of the world’s most complicated issues.
